w/ Dad Judy Elbie and Morgan made her triumphant return after graduating from HS in Pennsylvania 177.8 The Pound Holy diver I'm a survivor Feeling like DeNiro In Taxi Driver Squats-completed but, didn't like the form too much was able to muscle it up. 480 had technique, but 520 leaned a bit. Bench-not much to say here, still hurting, but healing (I hope). Last week I couldn't handle the 355 at all and dad had to help. This week it made it, but grinding it up instead of popping. w/ Dad Judy and Elbie 178.2lbs The Pound Yeah...they came to snuff the rooster, you know he ain't gonna die. Not giving up, had a great pull tonight. A few weeks ago I missed at 620, then a couple weeks later I got 620 and missed 640. Today got 620 and 640 and it was nice and smooth. Then, I moved on to floor presses and they felt better (not great yet) than they have in a while. Finished off w/ lots of sets of band tricep pushdowns and face pulls. Real happy w/ tonight...tomorrow it's more healing therapy. w/ Kayla 179.8lbs The Pound Stapled shut inside an outside world And I'm sealed in tight Bizarre but right at home Don't know quite what to do w/o my Sharks. Was planning to workout tomorrow. However, we forgot we are going to the Blues Traveler concert on Wednesday, so I did my workout tonight and will again tomorrow. Started out w/ Dumbbell Bench. Moved on to Rows. I took my big green bands and wrapped it around the squat rack and did 3x10. Then, I did my shoulder rehab work. Following that I moved on to some abs where I did hanging leg raises 2x10. After that I moved on to Peterson Step ups 2x15 on each leg. During my breaks I was timing Kayla on her handstands. She started gymnastics again tonight. Soccer ends-gymnastic starts for the girls-then the next 2 weeks is basketball camp-later they have tennis camp. Don't worry we'll keep pushing them in The Pound also. w/ Dad Judy Kayla and Elbie 180.2lbs The Pound Things are looking up. Had a good squat this morning, 520 was heavy, but manageable. I lacked the confidence to really let go and drive it, but I was able to muscle it up. Seems like the groin is healing up well, I just have to get it in my head to be more aggressive and not to worry. Sometimes that easier said than done. I'm still 5 weeks out, so I have some time to get it together. I'm not talkin' 'bout pleasure boatin' or day sailin'. I'm talkin' 'bout workin' for a livin'. I'm talkin' 'bout sharkin'! I know you are all looking for that final Shark update. Here goes...We played two tournament games on Thursday. We started out w/ our 4th draw of the season 1-1. Then, the Sharks came flying back to drub the other squad 4-0. Due to the scoring system, we knew this morning when we took the pitch we needed a win to advance. If we tied, we were done. The Sharks came out rarin' to go and got the much needed victory in an exciting 1-0 affair. We made it to the semi-finals and played Maradona again. This time we held her at bay, however we gave up a goal to another player and were unable to maneuver around Maradona and penetrate the net. Sharks lose 1-0. (Interestingly Maradona is never in need of rest and is able to play the entire game w/o ever substituting...while all of the other players are taken in and out continuously). So, was our dauber down at that point...NOT THE SHARKS-we came out in the 3rd place game and handled our business to the tune of 3-1. It was a very fun, exciting, and rewarding season! That's all til fall. w/ Dad and Judy and Elbie popped in and out 180.4lbs The Pound Oh this young man has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's refusal to accept him, well, I guess that's more than most 38-year-olds can handle. But I persevered. Had a good dead. Last week I struggled w/ 620 and missed. This week I got it and struggled w/ 640, however, I felt better about 640 this week than I did about 620 last week. I then did some reverse hypers w/ just leg weight: 4x15 Then, I did some light benching. w/ Dad and Judy 180.2lbs The Pound You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free. I do feel shame, seems like I've been in the box for quite awhile now. Today's RDL's felt good, tomorrow we go heavy on the deads and saturday heavy on the squats. I feel shame that my body is deserting me at the most inopportune time. However, I have some time left to get it fixed. Groin improving, will try to limp along w/ the shoulder and hit it hard the last few weeks. I also threw in dumbbell bench 35x8 40x8 50x8 60x8 70x8 Then I hit the rehab stuff on my shoulders. I then did some light cardio vis -a vis lawn mowing. I'm on that TRON workout. w/ Dad and Judy and Elbie 178.6lbs The Pound How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?... Yeah... Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind. Squats felt heavy today, but I was able to push well so it wasn't bad at all. I followed up w/ some good mornings, got a good stretch on those. I then went and did my shoulder rehab exercises. On the pitch the had another stalemate. That concludes or regular season, we finished 1-1-3. Thursday starts the tournament, we have 2 games and then 2 more on Saturday and hopefully qualify for the 3rd place or championship game. We have 11 players and 9 of them played at least a half game in goal and in every game the girls rotated and played forward and defense. Now we get down to brass tacks and start putting together a more concrete lineup to try to take the tourney. No more mister nice guy, now I go from Mr. Rogers to Bobby Knight. He was in intensive care for eight weeks. Yeah, but I mean the very end, when he actually died. That was extremely sudden. Did some RDL's, felt good. Did the treadmill thing again, not so good, but got the heart rate up and maintained er at around 150. Did some shoulder rehab. Did 50 pullups (5x10 w/ dad supporting my legs). w/ Dad and Judy 180.8lbs The Pound "I never had a lot of money never made much sense" Didn't make much sense to me. I deadlifted w/ no groin pain tonight. Maybe it's getting better. I was cruising along, you can add 25#s to the numbers and I kept on climbing up. I got to 620 and didn't finish it. Disappointed yet optimistic. I usually don't go this heavy this far out, but it's what was called for and I gave er a go. Bench was strong, shoulder was sore, but been rehabbing and stretching. I'm looking forward to saturdays squat after a few more days of stretching and seeing where I am at. Cautiously optimistic at this point. Doesn't make much sense. We are changing things up a bit, trying to get things worked out to maximize strength and minimize overdoing it. Did some incline bench, and supersetted w/ 3x8 of Glute Ham Raise. Then, I hopped on the treadmill, yes you read that right, I went on the treadmill and did 20mins of cardio keeping heart rate between 148-156. We found ourselves down 1-0 in the first half and then came out in the second and knotted it up. We played a great game, but got nothing to show for it and ended in a draw. He's 61 years old and still hitting prs after nearly 20 years of competing. WOW!! He went 363 on the squat, 226 on the bench, and 451 on the dead at 181 pounds. He got the 451 on his second and got red lighted for a knee not being locked out, so he took it again and got it. This was his first meet pulling sumo and still had a great pull! Great job Dad!! The Sharks...ugh. The Sharks weren't able to swim with the Hurricanes overhead. We were outcoached today. Our meticulous gameplan is based on always "finishing strong." I forgot to bring my "start strong" playbook and we paid for it. We found ourselves behind 6-0 before we were able to shake the cobwebs. Then, we got revved up and scored 3 goals to the opponents 1 and ended running out of time to the tune of 7-3. The Purple Penguins were doubled up 4-2, but there was a Reid on the scoring ledger. |
